Artist Profile

Bev Bunker is an Alberta-born artist currently residing in St. Albert, Alberta, Canada and one of Western Canada’s up-and-coming artists.   She has been active in the art field for over 30 years. She has studied varied aspects of art and art specializations in England, Ireland, Wales, the U.S.A. and throughout the Province of Alberta.  Bev has been commissioned by the Province of Alberta, corporations, various companies and private individuals and remains a requested commission artist for the Goverment of Alberta. Her paintings are currently represented by Around the Corner Art Studio in St. Albert, Alberta and The Gallery on Oak Bay Avenue, in Victoria, B.C. – the first is Bev’s own working studio and the second being a fine-art gallery featuring the work of many well-known Canadian artists.

Bev  paints Western Canadian landscapes through the medium of oils in a realistic style capturing many moods and moments of the changing seasons. She is also skilled in painting figurative work, portraiture, and unusual objects which become the focus of her still-lifes.  Her work ranges in sizes from 5 in.x 7 in. up to 40 in.x 60 in. Bev also prefers to paint on hand-stretched canvases primed with a traditional lead primer (which she does herself), linen, and gesso-board.

 Bev teaches oil painting for all levels of skill. She is currently an instructor at Artra Art School in Edmonton, Alberta, a small atelier favoring strong foundations in all media for developing artists. In the past she has taught many art workshops in Canada as well as overseas in Totnes’ historic Dartington Hall – a beautiful medieval manor in England where she was also an Artist-In-Residence in 1993.

Bev’s diversity also lies within the musical arena playing the flute doing improv on popular pieces, jazz and blues  She also has accomplished many orchestral selections from Classical to Modern Contemporary pieces. Bev  has previously studied Classical Guitar and Piano.
